The Oleksandrivskyi District Court in Zaporizhzhia has convicted a professor at Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University of storing video materials depicting sexual violence against children.
The academic was sentenced to two years of restricted freedom but was exempted from serving the sentence, receiving a one-year probationary period. He was also banned from working with minors for one year and ordered to pay more than UAH 7,000 for forensic examinations.
According to local media reports, the defendant is Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Oleksandr Smoliakov. Despite the court’s ruling, as of the end of August 2026, he continued to hold an academic and teaching position at Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic.
