In the US, military boards refuse to discharge transgender people solely because of their gender identity

The Donald Trump administration introduced a policy to remove transgender people from the military, claiming that they posed a threat to the army’s combat readiness.

However, US Navy and Marine Corps boards reviewing individual service members’ cases recommended retaining them in service in 9 out of 12 cases.

As The New York Times reports, officers considered the service members’ professional performance and found no grounds for their dismissal. At the same time, the boards’ decisions do not yet guarantee that the service members will be allowed to remain in the military. The final decision rests with senior command.
